International Open Access Week was founded by SPARC in 2008, and is now organised in partnership with the Open Access Week Advisory Committee.

Open Access Week is an annual global community-centric event to spotlight open access publishing (along with the broader principles of open research and open science). The Open Access movement advocates greater access to research work for all, in turn fuelling the acceleration of new research. The theme of Open Access Week 2022 (24-30 October) is Open for Climate Justice.
Since the inception of the Open Access movement around the turn of the millennium, we have been helping research authors globally navigate and succeed in the rapidly developing sphere of Open Access publishing.
