Using our Statistical Review service can help even the most experienced author avoid making mistakes in their reporting and statistics, allowing them to focus on the topic issues. A clear and accurately reported paper will lead to fewer rejections and revisions.

Our algorithms and checks work better if you have clear sections with defined headers in your manuscript. For more information on how to submit your article in the correct format for this service, please read our FAQs.

Please note this service is for medical and life science articles only.

A Sample Statistic Review Report

According to a 1998 study by Douglas Altman, over 50% of papers published in medical journals fell below acceptable reporting standards.

"...the majority of statistical analyses are performed by people with an inadequate understanding of statistical methods. They are then peer reviewed by people who are generally no more knowledgeable".

Altman D, Statistical reviewing for Medical Journals, Statistics in Medicine, 1998: 17-2661-2674s

The Statistical Review service report is a decision-making tool for you; it allows you to identify and correct any potential issues before submitting your article to your preferred journal, minimising the risk of rejection.

Only a small number of journals employ a professional statistician to assist in the review process, which means that many peer reviewers are not experienced or formally trained and there is a danger of providing inaccurate advice or criticism back to you at review stage.

Our algorithms and checks work better if you have clear sections with defined headers in your manuscript. If the appropriate sections cannot be found, an error will be returned.

To avoid reporting errors please structure your article following the guidelines below:

Required Sections

The following sections are required: Abstract, Introduction, Methods, and Results.

Sections must be indicated by a subtitle on a single line preceding it. Variations of the section name are accepted within reason (i.e. "Materials and Methods").

Section           Use subtitles to separate sections

Abstract          Abstract, Synopsis, Structured Abstract

Introduction    Introduction, Background, Objectives

Methods          Combinations of words: Methods, Materials, Subjects, Patients, Designs

Results            Results

Statistics         Statistics, Data Analysis, Outcome Measures, Analyses, Data Collection

Discussion        Discussion, Conclusion

References       References, Bibliography

Funding            Funding, Support

Figures             Figures, Tables, Legends

When a document is submitted, the text is extracted and sections are identified. If text cannot be extracted, or the appropriate sections cannot be found, an error will be returned and no report is generated.

If the reporting tool cannot clearly identify headers and sections, this may result in an error report being generated with details on how to correct your article before uploading again. Once you have made corrections, you can upload your article again to be checked at no further charge.

Please ensure you structure your article correctly before re-uploading.

You must upload a Word document only.
